Alternative Treatment

There is a lot of evidence that shows that Chinese medicine can help prevent and treat diabetes. There are different treatments available, such as acupuncture and Chinese herbs. We will discuss both treatments below.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves placing tiny needles into the skin at specific points on the body. Chen and his coworkers did a meta-analysis to assess the effects and safety of acupuncture for type II diabetes. They concluded that acupuncture could be recommended as a supplementary treatment in the management of type II diabetes, especially in those with obesity.

Chinese Herbs

According to a meta-analysis conducted by Suksomboon and his coworkers, they found that current evidence suggests that Ipomoea batatas, Silybum marianum, and Trigonella foenum-graecum containing supplements may improve glycemic control in type II diabetes. Another meta-analysis conducted by Gong and her coworkers suggests fenugreek can improve hypoglycemic and cholesterol levels.
